Everyone has a different vision of what their dream job looks like. For some, it’s recognition or fame. For others, the chance to put their best skills to work. As for me, I wanted a career that allowed me to help others in an environment that inspired strong relationships. So it shouldn’t come as any surprise that my job today—working side-by-side with my husband, Scott, and daughter, Ansley, to help others with their finances—is one of my dreams.
Getting Started
Throughout the 2000s, I was working in business development, first as the vice president of business development at ETEC, a leading provider of information technology training, and then as a partner at Anscol, Inc., providing consulting to develop and manage new business for small- to mid-sized IT services organizations. Meanwhile, Scott first worked as an independent advisor before switching to a major financial firm. While he loved working in the industry, he was overworked and didn’t feel he could collaborate as closely with clients as he wanted.
During this time, we often talked about how we envisioned the ideal financial services firm. After much discussion about who we wanted to help and how, we realized it made the most sense to return to independence and form our firm. We always wanted to build a business together, and this was our opportunity to do that. So, in 2009, Scott went back to his independent roots, and I received my security licenses to form Malloch Wealth Management.
Today, Scott, Ansley, and I work together running Malloch Wealth Management. We focus on helping university faculty, their families, and former students create a lifestyle sustaining income in retirement without the fear of running out of money or going back to work.
We enjoy serving this population because they are such special people. They give so much of themselves to teaching our future world leaders or spending time researching new ideas to make the world a better place. We feel honored that we can help those that help others.
We are committed to keeping Malloch Wealth Management a small community practice. As a result, we spend a lot of time getting to know our clients and their goals. From old-fashioned “house calls” to frequent meetings and follow-up calls, our clients know us well and trust us. In an industry where there is a lot of distrust, we are trustworthy and loyal to our clients and put their best interests first.
There are certainly challenges that come with running a business while working one-on-one with clients, but it is so fulfilling to see clients experience true happiness when we help them achieve their goals. I am proud that I can provide people a path they can follow to work toward a comfortable retirement so they can retire confidently and stay that way.
